This is the first clip in world
history to utilize my Audience
Meter technology.

Let's give credit where it's
due: the idea was kind of inspired
by Groupon (like every other site
these days).

But this is different because it
doesn't involve money, deals, or
anything like that. In fact, it
just involves something we all
have already: a desire to see
something cool that everyone else
is experiencing at the same
time.

I don't know if the Audience
Meter will actually work, or not.
I don't know if people will get
a kick out of it or hate it. I don't
know whether it will make my clips
more popular or less popular...

But I'm SO ready to find out.
It's taken many days to develop the tech,
and it's time to let it shine.

I hope that Audience Meter will
fill a void that web video still
has to this day: the lack of
shared experience.

Remember when people used to say
things like, "did you see Friends
last night?" Even for drama and
sitcom shows, people all wanted
to see the latest episode together.

But a lot of that disappeared when
it was replaced by the convenience
of constant, free (or cheap) on-demand
video. Why watch my show when it's on,
when I can just Tivo it? Why watch
the latest episode when it'll just
be on Netflix or Hulu soon enough?

The magical shared experience of
watching shows as soon as they
aired wasn't caused *just* by word
of mouth. It was also fostered
by an important reality: you
couldn't watch the shows again unless
you wanted to wait several days.
So, we kind of *had* to have the shared
experience. Inconvenient, sometimes, but
definitely cool.

But now, you can watch whenever.
So where's the reality? Where's the
limited resource? Where's the scarcity?

Audience Meter shows bring back
scarcity. You can't watch them
unless a certain amount of people
join. Without an excited crowd, the
shows don't even exist. It's shared
experience or nothing.

Will this change the world?
Maybe.
Let the experiment be made!
